Where Were You?

Posted by Jake Lublin

On September 11, 2oo1, New York and the United States of America went through one of its toughest times as a country.  On that day alone there were 2,977 casualties from New York in the twin towers, the Pentagon, and all the planes that were crashed.  New York being hit the worst was where both Twin Towers collapsed on the day of the attack. Thousands perished at the spot of the attack, along with an insurmountable number of people who were deeply effected by the attacks.

It seemed like it would take a while for New York and the whole United States to re-group from these attacks, which it did.  However for New Yorkers there is one moment which people remember to be uplifting.

September 21 was the first game the Mets would play at home since the attacks, the first game of sports to be played in New York since the attack.  While facing the Braves there were some heartfelt and uplifting moments, when the players first came out, another being when Liza Minnelli sang "New York New York."

In the 8th inning the Mets were down by one with Mike Piazza coming to the plate.  Piazza, the superstar catcher for the Mets had the opportunity to take the lead over the Braves and "uplift" the City of  New York.  Tomorrow being the 10th anniversary of 9-11 there are sure to be many tears shed, however on 21st of  September 10 years ago, the ball that came off the bat of Mike Piazza put plenty of smiles on the faces of all New Yorkers.

Recap Game 2: Braves 5, Mets 1

Posted by Jake Lublin

The Mets couldn't pull it together in the second game of the double header, losing to the braves 5 to 1.

Box Score: Click Here

Tough two losses for the Mets today and it just seemed that nothing was clicking.  It was a deflating first game losing to the Braves by only one run.  Unfortunately the Mets couldn't pull it together in the second game with Dillon Gee on the mound.  However a ton of credit should be given to Gee having to regroup at many times, even setting aside nine in a row until Martin Prado led off the 5th with a double that would later score.  The bullpen in Danny Herrera and Pedro Beato struggled allowing three runs.  Also, the Mets were having trouble punching in that big hit against Julio Teheran who looked sharp.

Next For The Mets:

Mike Pelfrey (7-11, 4.68 ERA) will take on Casey Coleman (2-7, 6.61 ERA) in the start of a three game series with the Cubs at Citi Field.  Projected game time is 7:1o pm.

Recap: Mets 1, Marlins 0

Posted by Jake Lublin

Tonight the Mets take the series finale with the Marlins 1-0.

Box Score: Click Here

Key Info:

  • Once again against the Marlins R.A. Dickey looked fantastic going seven shutout innings allowing four runs, three walks and three strike outs.  Dickey has not allowed an earned run in the 20 innings he's pitched against the Marlins.
  • Jose Reyes kept his hit streak alive at 9 games, going 1-2 with two walks.
  • Lucas Duda continued his hot streak driving in the Mets only run off a double.
  • Manny Acosta picked up the save tonight, being his first one of the season.

Some Thoughts:

Dickey has been shutout against the Marlins, it seems every time he steps on to the hill against them he is just untouchable.  All around poise and control is much better against them.

Josh Stinson continued his scoreless streak in the majors now at 5 2/3 innings.  He looks very composed on the rubber and is able to use his command to get by pitchers.

Next For The Mets:

In tomorrow's double header against the Braves, Chris Schwinden will take on Mike Minor at 4: 10 pm followed by Dillon Gee facing Julio Teheran.
