Jose wins batting title

Posted by Jake Lublin

After Ryan Braun went 0-4 today in his game at Miller Park, Jose Reyes officially claimed the the 2011 NL batting title. Jose is the first player on the Mets ever to win this award

This statement was released by the team, Jose speaking on his behaf of winning the batting title

“I just want to say I’m humbled and honored to win the batting title. It means so much to my family and my country, the Dominican Republic. I have been through a lot over the past few years so this really means a lot to me. It’s also very special to be the first Mets player to win a batting title. There have been so many great players throughout our history. I want to thank Terry Collins, my coaches and all my teammates and of course all the Mets fans who have always supported me and been behind me 100 percent.”

This is a great achievement for Jose, and its really not a big deal he was pulled today.  He said it meant a lot to him which it did, all his work and devotion to this team he deserved to be pulled so he could win the tittle.

Thats a wrap

Theres the season finishing off on a good note winning todays game 3-0 against the Reds.

Although, the season did not go how they wanted it to Terry Collins addressed the media after the game in tears about how proud he is for his boys.

Jose Reyes asked to be taken out of the game after he reached base on a bunt single.  Although it was the last game being taken out upped his chances at the NL batting championship that he was striving to reach.

These pictures were taking by Michael Baron of the Metsblog, where Willie Harris pushed Jose Reyes out of the dugout after the game to give the fans what they wanted to see Jose.

Recap: Cardinals 11, Mets 6

Mets fall in a tough way tonight to the Cards

Some thoughts: Thanks to Sandy Alederson for making the appearance on SNY, he addressed many issues such as the Citi Field walls and if there will be changes, he also said the changes wont be small so watch out. However on to bigger things Sandy also said his closer for next year may not be in the organization which would mean they would be testing the trade and free agent market.  This idea could be great for the team getting Parnell in the 8th and then when the team comes back and are trying to keep the lead in the 9th you will also have someone to close it out.

Next For The Mets:

Chris Schwinden (0-2, 5.40 ERA) will take on Jamie Garcia (12-7, 3.59 ERA) tomorrow at 8:15pm.

Mets Resign Tim Byrdak

Posted by Jake Lublin

As the offseason approaches the Sandy Alderson is going to have to make some moves. One of the first was made when they resigned Tim Byrdak the lefty specialist.

In my opinion signing Tim is a great sign, a lefty who has been one of the only reliable arms in the pen.  Sandy was think reliable and smart when he made this acquisition.

Recap: Nationals 10, Mets 1

Posted by Jake Lublin

Today against the Nationals the Mets lost 10-1

Box Score: Click Here

Key Info:

  • Chris Schwinden allowed one earned run in five innings of work.
  • Valentino Pascucci made an error in the 5th to score another runner.
  • After Daniel Herrera balked in the third run in the 7th, the bullpen in Pedro Beato and Manny Acosta went on to give up 7 combined runs.

Terry's Thoughts:

“This has been an awful time. … I’m the manager of this team and I’m responsible. We didn’t manage, we didn’t coach and we didn’t play. It’s pretty simple. You go through stretches and this is one of them, but perception is reality in our game and the perception I have is that we folded it up. I won’t stand for that. You want to see intensity? You want to see me be intense? You guys are gonna see it? I don’t play that game. You come to play the game right. I don’t care what the situation is, I don’t care what the standings say, I don’t care about pitch counts. I only care about playing the game correctly. Our fans should be upset. I don’t blame them one bit. … We need to find a new formula. I don’t know what it is yet, but I’ve got a three-hour plan ride to figure it out. … They’re tired. But, the Washington Nationals are tired too. … They can’t be any  more tired than we are. They’re playing for the exact same thing we are, and that’s pride. … We’re not done. We have two weeks to go. If we’re gonna fold it up, that tells me something. It tells me a lot about what will happen next year when we are fighting for something.”

Terry's thoughts about todays game.

Next For The Mets:

The Mets will be heading to Atlanta tomorrow night at 7:35 to start a 3 game series with the braves. With Chris Capuano facing Derek Lowe.
