Ike may need microfracture surgery

Posted by Jake Lublin

This afternoon at Citi Field Sandy Alderson spoke to reporters regarding Ike Davis' bone bruise in his ankle.  According to SNY producer Matt Dunn, Ike's bone bruise is still present also a cartilage issue has come into play in his ankle.

Alderson said that Ike may need to have microfracture surgery, which would mean he would miss the remainder of the season.  He will be rechecked in three weeks and then the decision will be made, but in that time he may reach out for a second opinion.

However this turns out, if Ike misses time it will not be good for the team, but with a young player they have to make the right decision so it does not turn into a lingering problem.

Reyes will not negotiate till the end of the season

Posted by Jake Lublin

Today at Citi Field, Sandy Alderson spoke to reporters and according to SNY Producer Matt Dunn he reached out to Jose Reyes' agents, and they said there will be no negotiations about a new contract till the season is over.

Reyes doesn't want any distractions at this point of the season, however had said he wants to finish his MLB career with the Mets.

It's not a surprise that Reyes doesn't want to negotiate now with the way he is playing.  He and his agents have made it clear that they think his new contract should be worth Carl Crawford money in 145m over 7 years.  Although he wants that, no one knows if any one is willing to pay up that type of money.  Without a doubt there will be speculations that he may be traded before the deadline this season, if not he will probably play out the free agent market before making a decision on where to go.

Also with the way Mets fans are treating Reyes with all the signs and devotion to keeping him in Flushing this may help Jose stay in New York if it comes time for free agency.

Recap: Athletics 7, Mets 3

The Mets fall to the A's in the first game of their three game series

Box Score: Click Here

Key Info:

  • Dillon Gee (7-1) started the game for the Mets and only went 4 innings.  He allowed four runs, three hits and six walks.
  • Jason Bay went 3-3 with a walk, single, triple and his 3rd home run of the season.
  • After a 0-4 night from Daniel Murphy, he is now 3 for his last 29 at the plate.
  • Tonight the Mets stranded 9 runners on base.
  • Jose Reyes also had an 0-5 night

Some Thoughts:

Coming in to the night everyone was expecting a big night from Dillon Gee, however it did not live up to expectations.  Gee just did not have his stuff today and struggled with his command having a total of 6 walks.  Clearly he did not have any help from home plate umpire Adrian Johnson who tonight had the strike zone of a thumb tack.

On a good note it was great to see Jason Bay get some hits in tonight, including his first home run in 89 at bats.  Also Bay had his first triple of the year in the 8th, that went under review, eventually it was kept as a one run triple.

The Mets attempted at an 8th inning comeback where they got in one run, but ended up leaving the bases loaded.

The start of this inter league stint hasn't been the best for the Mets facing these AL West teams.  The Mets will look to take the final two games of the series against the A's which are crucial to get the Mets back in the winning ways.

Terry's Post Game Comments:

  • Gee had trouble with his off speed pitches also, did not think it was his ability to pitch with catcher Ronny Paulino.
  • The team did not do a good job making adjustments
  • They have not played well at home, and this needs to change
  • When Jose Reyes the team still needs to find ways to score
  • If Jason Bay keeps hitting, consideration will begin to move him up in the lineup

Next For The Mets:

Tomorrow R.A. Dickey (3-7, 4.00 ERA) will take on Gio Gonzalez (6-1, 2.69 ERA) in the middle game of this series.  Projected Game time is 7:1o pm.

Recap: Angles 7, Mets 3

Posted by Jake Lublin

(AP Photo/Bill Kostroun)

Today the Mets fell to the Angles 7-3

    Box Score: Click Here

    Key Info:

    • Jon Niese (6-6) went four innings, allowing 5 runs off of 8 hits, four of which were earned.
    • In his first game in four days Josh Thole, reached base 3-4 times with two hits and a walk.
    • Justin Turner added his 11th double of the year, the only extra base hit of the day.
    • Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran both drove in a run with a single in the 9th.

    Some Thoughts:

Niese just didn't seem to have it today and was roughed up early.  He had trouble getting out of jams and let up big hits that drove in the Angles mass amount of runs.  Also his curve ball wasn't its norm today.

The Mets dropped their first series since May 27th-29th.

    Next For The Mets:

Dillon Gee (7-0, 2.86 ERA) will open up another three game series of inter-league play facing the Athletics.  Josh Outman (2-1, 3.14 ERA) will be facing Gee for the A's.  Projected game time is 7:10 pm

    Recap: Mets 6, Angles 1

    Posted by Jake Lublin

The Mets took the second game of the three game series tonight against the Angles.

    Box Score: Click Here

    Key Info:

    • Mike Pelfrey went the distance tonight for the Mets, allowing 1 run off of 5 hits.
    • Carlos Beltran had an RBI single and a long two run home run.
    • Jason Bay had two hits, and an RBI single that helped get him back on the right track.
    • The Mets had a big night on the base path stealing a total of 4 bases tonight.

    Some Thoughts:

The Mets caught Dan Haren on a bad pitching night, and got him roughed up early.  Also the Mets base runners ran all over the Angles which helped with Haren's bad outing.

Although many have their doubts in Jason Bay, I like how he has been stepping it up lately and although doesn't show threat with power is seeming to be hitting the key RBI base hits.

Now thats the Pelfrey we all like to see.  Pelf had Citi Field on the edge of their seats the whole night, and attending this wonderful game I saw a large amount of passion out of the Mets faithful when Pelf came out to finish the game.

Talk about a shot......... Carlos Beltran's rocket to the Shea Bridge was a well needed show of power from the team who has been struggling to hit the long ball.

    Terry's Post Game Comments:

    • There is only a few times where a player gets to finish a game, and tonight Pelfrey earned it
    • With the day off Monday he wasn't worried about Pelfreys pitch count
    • Jose Reyes, and the leadership of Carlos Beltran have kept the team afloat when needed
    • Many opposing managers have spoken about how Reyes scores runs, drives in runs, and stop runs from being scored
    • People were happy when Jason Bay had his RBI single, and it gave the team a source of energy

    Next For The Mets:

Tomorrow afternoon the rubber game of this series with show Jon Niese facing Tyler Chatwood.  Projected game time is 1:10 pm at Citi Field.
